Program: ESL-HCA
This program (ESL-HCA) helped me in many ways, some that I would not have even thought of before it began. I have learned to organize my time and to do tasks so that I am able to accomplish all things that I need to do, and still have time for myself. As a student I have opened and used my mind in a way I haven’t for many years. I have learned to study and know that my chosen career path requires the ability to continue learning and growing.
As a health care provider I have learned the value and importance of providing client-centred care. Also, I have learned about the necessity of meeting clients on their own terms. I’ve discovered the value of seeing myself as part of a care team.
For me this is the most important part of my ESL learning, that in spite of the fact that I had thought of myself as being fluent in English, I now am more familiar with English. Studying in an English-speaking country has helped me become a more effective communicator and a better participant in a care team.
